Witnesses say the snake, measuring about 10ft long, swallowed a six-month-old baby that was left abandoned outside a house.
The baby was reportedly left on a mat outside, while the mother went inside. A witness, who claimed to have arrived the scene as the snake was in the process of swallowing the baby, raised an alarm. People rushed to the scene and killed the snake, but were too late to save the baby.
My question is, if someone saw the snake in the process of swallowing the baby, why didn't they kill it before it completed the job and at least try to save the child. Where was the child's mother? There's no way a snake would be swallowing a baby and the baby would not be screaming its lungs out at least at first. I'm so freaked out by the story and the picture is not helping matters.

Can you believe the words that are coming out of that woman's mouth? "The python misses the boy" "You never know when your child is going to heaven through your snake". I'm speechless. What are people doing keeping these things as pets?

ReplyDeletei mean.....................pythons are still living within humans?..i thought they stay away from human contact?..why didn't the man throw a stick or stone at it to distract it before giving the child the squeeze death then swallowing?..it takes time to swallow such a large prey!....didn't the mother hear any sound?...i mean...both the mother & the person that raised alarm were both $%*&%&*urrrghhhh, jeez! am sooooo pissed off!!!!

p.s..i have a kind of feeling that this is not ordinary..i dunno.. something if fishy...in 9ja, nothing should be taking for face value..a python?..crawled out on the ground without anybody seeing it from afar?...which bush did it emanate from?..abi it's somebody's pet?...so many questions begging for answer..& for the mother.. damn!

ReplyDelete@Sting: Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm going to imply from your comment that the baby would have been screaming that you haven't encountered many pythons.
ReplyDeletePythons are constrictors. They kill by squeezing to death BEFORE swallowing.
Once the python constricts the baby the first time, even if the child is alive it will be unable to scream because it can't inflate its lungs to draw the air necessary to make sound.
Second, if the python was already swallowing the baby by the time it was first seen, then the baby was already dead.
Long story short, there was no saving to be done.
The only scenario in which the baby might have been saved is if the python just straight up swallowed the child without constricting it, and given the habits of other pythons in the world, that is unlikely.
@Ibhade, a stick or a stone will do absolutely nothing to distract a python in the processing of constricting someone. Most pythons are heavier than a full grown man.
And I'm not sure why you're surprised that pythons live close to humans... after all WE invaded their habitat not the other way around, and pythons are a revered and highly respected and sacred part of Igbo culture as messengers of the Goddess Ani.
Poor woman. People 10 ft snake no be short thing o. but The parents in that video are crazy. I feel their loss but it seems the snake has charmed them ni. From what I can infer the snake is still alive abi? They are waiting for it to get hungry and eat their dog or another child. There is a reason some animals are called domesticated and some wild. sheesh.
ReplyDeleteThis story is NOT real if any animal kills a child they would be forced to kill the animal by authorities. The supposed mother stated the snake misses Jake if this was real any normal person would have killed the snake right on the spot and tore it open to get their child. It also is obvious that any normal parent would not leave their child alone with a snake that already ate their dog.
